Do Fibroides Cause Weight Gain

Uterine Fibroids are quite common among women with nearly 75% having them at some stage during their lives. The causes for these Fibroids are often not diagnosed and therefore unknown. Weight gain which cannot be explained is a common symptom of uterine Fibroids. The sizes of Fibroids can differ from that of an orange to one which is as large as a watermelon. Women who have developed large Fibroids are likely to experience weight gain. Initially they can be diagnosed by a by manual exam of the pelvic area where the suspicious mass could be detected. Thereafter the patient will be asked to undergo further tests such as MRI scans and ultrasounds to determine whether the diagnosis is conclusive.

Fibroids are not specifically known to cause weight gain. It is believed that weight gain is generally a problem associated with lack of exercise and negligence in controlling weight. Women with Fibroides could also encounter this problem due to a number of other reasons which include constipation and use of contraceptives. Conditions with the thyroid are also responsible for unexplained gain in weight. These are matters that can easily be diagnosed by a qualified physician where a physical examination will be required. Therefore a visit to the physician is recommended in order to understand the reasons for increase in weight.

Fibroides and Weight Gain

Having understood that Fibroides on their own do not contribute to weight gain it will become necessary for women that are facing the problem to make an attempt to understand why they are overweight. In cases where the Fibroides are large women may come across some addition to their weight. On the other hand women with smaller Fibroides may not see any difference. Either way a decision must be left to the discretion of a physician. He or she will be able to conduct an examination and give a proper answer rather than indulging in guesswork.

When visiting the physician it will be essential for women to prepare a list of questions they want answers for. They must consider factors like use of oral contraceptives, conditions of thyroid, constipation and any conditions which leave them bloated and the level of discomfort. There must also be prepared to answer questions about their dietary habits which will give an indication about the increase in weight of their body. None of these factors can be ignored at any time because they can help a physician to come to proper conclusion about the diagnosis.

Advice provided by the physician must be followed and not ignored by the patient. If the increase in weight is related to problems like lack of exercise and poor eating habits changes that will prove beneficial must be made at the earliest. If however there are indications that large Fibroides prevail in the body care must be taken to go through the examinations suggested. Neglecting the issue after diagnosis has been provided is not advised because it could lead to problems that may not have been anticipated. However if the increasing weight is related to any of the other concerns discussed the help of a dietician must be sought and changes be made to the lifestyle as suggested. This will mean getting plenty of exercise, staying away from high calorie and fried foods and subsisting on a diet of fruits and vegetables. These are changes that will prove extremely beneficial and help in reducing the weight to acceptable standards.

Fibroides and Menopause

Earlier it was common for physicians to advise patients that Fibroides would shrink in size after changes to their life cycle. However it was noted that a number of women underwent an hysterectomy even though they had Fibroides and had made it to menopause. Now there is a belief that the best time to deal with Fibroides is when the symptoms are first discovered. Waiting for sometime for the Fibroides to shrink during menopause is not suggested because it can only give the Fibroides more time to grow. In such cases women will feel symptoms that are worsening and an increase in pain and bleeding. Therefore it is strongly suggested that women take the actions as required sooner rather than wait for the condition to exasperate itself.

How Much Do Fibroides Weigh

The weight of Fibroides can be different from one patient to another depending upon the size of the mass and the time it has received to grow within the body. Some women who have had action taken immediately upon discovery of the condition may not have to deal with heavy Fibroides. At the same time it must be understood that no data is available to show how slowly or fast Fibroides develop and grow. Therefore it would not be proper to mention that Fibroides just grow to a particular size. We have mentioned earlier that Fibroides can be as small as an orange or the size of a watermelon. Therefore women will not be able to determine the rate of the weight off the Fibroides in their body.

A better option would be to let a physician determine the size and come to a conclusion about what the weight could be after removal from the body. Imaging technology used to determine the size of the Fibroides is not considered good enough to allow physicians to make a decision about their weight. Reports are available to prove some women have spoken about Fibroides in the region of 1000 g while others have reported smaller sizes. The weight of the Fibroides can only be determined after it has been removed. Therefore it would not be proper to discuss this subject unless and expert view is available on the same.

The problem with Fibroides is quite common and as mentioned earlier is first by over 75 of percent on women. Despite advances in science it is surprising that the condition is not often diagnosed. Ignorance about the problem would perhaps be a reason for the lower numbers of diagnosed patients. However it is certain that Fibroides must be removed if they are a cause for concern for the patient.
